Righthaven Settles $150,000 Copyright Suit for $1,000
It was reported back in February that Righthaven demanded $6,000 from blogger Brian Hill. As suggested by VEGAS INC, the settlement amount for Rawlings -- of which the defendant has so far made no payments toward -- can hardly cover the cost of filing and closing the lawsuit. If Righthaven attempts to enforce the written settlement agreement, it may run into lack of standing issues.
Righthaven revealed in a court filing this week it agreed to settle a lawsuit over a Las Vegas Review-Journal story against Richard Rawlings and the United States Marijuana Party in Peoria, Ill., for just $1,000 — payable in 10 monthly installments of $100.See: Article in full
That’s a far cry from the $150,000 in statutory damages and seizure of the defendants’ website domain name that Righthaven demanded in its Sept. 8 lawsuit.
