Where you terrified? Angry? Both?
Righthaven LLC -- a bottom feeding legal outfit -- has teamed up with the Las Vegas Review-Journal and Denver Post to sue mom and pop websites, advocacy and public interest groups and forum board operators for copyright infringement. The strategy of Righthaven is to sue thousands of these website owners, who are primarily unfunded and will be forced to settle out of court.

I've not yet received official notification of suit, but did get an email in the middle of the night from Steve Green, with lawsuit papers attached. I was leaving before dawn the next morning and would be almost totally out of touch for several days. I had no idea who Steve Green was, nor where all this was coming from, had no ability to handle the problem for several days, so understandably was pretty panicked. Frantic phone calls to my spouse (who also panicked) and website manager pieced together a stop gap plan of pulling down the website temporarily and I was able to pull myself together enough to "pay attention to business" which was the reason for the travel.
ReplyDeleteOnce I was able to do a little Internet research, I understood more what was going on and calmed down. But this is a ridiculous attempt to shake down little guys, enough though to keep the law firm in business, so it seems. I even had a clearly stated blog that I would remove any material I had posted, upon reasonable request. So much for that.
